Enter the Banana FAQ

Enter the Banana (working title) is an annual development stream provided by Banana Boat where two playwrights are supported with dramaturgs and workshop/readings.

What's the development stream mean? Two playwrights will each have the opportunity and services of a dramaturg, two workshop readings and a final public reading over a twelve month period.

I want me some of that! How do I get some? Interested playwrights need to submit a complete draft of a play, a page about themselves and the play, and complete an application form.

When? WHEN? The 2012 stream is open for applications, and the deadline is Friday, 2 March 2012 at 5:00pm.

How's it work? People submit, then a panel of independent (ie., non-Banana Boat-affiliated) assessors read and select two writers, and the successful playwrights are announced!

How much does it cost? Nothing! It's free!

No! YES!

Is the stream open to only Pasifika and Maori writers? No - the Banana Boat believes in inclusiveness. However, preference will be given in the following order of priority: 1). Banana Boat members, 2). Pasifika and Maori writers, and 3). everyone else.

No fair! Yes fair as it's one of the Banana Boat's goals to be around for Pasifika and Maori artists. For further information, check out our trust deed.

Is the stream only open to playwrights? Preference will be given to plays, however screenplays and other long forms of writing will be considered.

Anything else? I'm glad you asked.
